Such a relief that the nursery is finished pre-baby... :) In my crazy-brain i just needed it done to feel at ease before the birth...
& I have to admit I was a little nervous about creating a gender-neutral nursery, but once i decided on a yellow & aqua color scheme (which was highly influenced by a couple of gorgeous nurseries on oh-dee-doh), everything else just kind of fell into place.
ok - so here we go. I am going to try my best to link as much as possible to the source as i go...
if anyone's been reading the blogg-o *that* long, you'll remember that we used a similar paint treatment with evan's first nursery (in MN), and created a big stripe around the room. I loved that look so much, that we did it again in ev's room here, and the nursery, now. :) I also went a little bit crazy with monkeys in his first nursery, and decided that the animal of choice for this baby would be a giraffe... ;) and then some elephants got thrown in too. (just for good measure!)
all of the furniture was "upcycled" ;) from evan's nursery - except for the nightstand - which was a clearance purchase from Restoration Hardware. Because we weren't spending on furniture, I definitely had more room (financially) to have fun with decor ;)
taking a tour around the room (which is a really nice size compared to evan's first nursery!), and starting with the bedding...
...i had the bedding custom made by this fabulous etsy shop (i highly recommend emily - she was great to work with!). I choose the fabric (aqua with yellow polkas for the bumper and yellow bumblebees for the sheet) and sent it to her, along with the solids - but she also has a great selection of coordinated prints in her shop. The sunshine squares quilt was made by me last month... ;) oh, & the baby's name will go over the crib once we know JUST what the baby's name is.... hehe.
To the right of the crib is a tall bookshelf that i stuffed with toys in order to add even more color to the room. The sound machine and video monitor will eventually go here. The abc print is from this etsy shop - and the giraffe lamp was a cheapy Homegoods find. I think this is my favorite corner of the room. ;)
To the left of the crib is the window, and we had a little bit of space left over, so I was able to fit in Evan's rocking horse, and this cube (from Target) which turned out to be the perfect place to store a BUNCH of baby books.
The giraffes are wall decals purchased from this etsy shop. The curtain topper is super simple & was made by me for less than $10.
Moving past the window, is the chair corner with the nightstand...
thought it would be nice to have someplace to put stuff when i'm feeding/rocking in the chair at all hours of the night ;)
The fact that the chair we already had was BROWN, was probably the biggest color issue that i had > but i love the chair, its super comfy, and there was nothing wrong with it, so we made it work. I had the crazy-talented crafty-crochet-lady who made me a large afghan last year, make a similar style baby sized one out of yarn colors that i choose to match the room. (this is her online shop, i'm sure that there's contact info on it somewhere if interested!) i ADORE how it turned out, and somehow know that there will be many baby photos taken on it!
Above the chair is a peg shelf...
...and hanging from one of the pegs is a dream ring that i'm pretty sure eric hates, but i love. ha ;)
There's another target cube in between the chair and nightstand - perfect for more book storage...
The illuminated egg lamp on top of the nightstand was definitely one of my splurges in the room - but it is SO fun, and shoots out little stars of light all over the room at night. ;) The music box next to it is something that Evan has decided that he loves, along with the orange monkey!
The bottom bin of the nightstand is now full of a whole tin of burpies - I made like 15 of these at the beginning of the pregnancy, and am SO glad that I did - they were great to have with evan (so much more durable than just a prefold dipe). I used lots of hard to find favorite fabrics on these, bc i just thought that it would be amusing at some point to me, to be wiping up burps in the middle of the night with really pricy fabric. ha ;) Sophie the Giraffe is hanging out with the burpies - ready to be chewed on!
To the left of the chair corner is the changing table / dresser...
...this ended up being my little 'ode to the elephant' wall. :)
the multi elephant "print" is really a piece of matte gift wrap(!) that i've had for over a year, the elephant mirror is from petit collage, the elephant sunshine artwork is from this etsy shop - Freya Art, and the elephant embroidery hoop was done by this etsy shop.
(the cute little bunny is a brush/comb set)
Finally (almost done!) is the last wall with the doorway on it, not a lot going on there, but it helps you see the room as a whole.
& We did "recycle" 2 little IKEA prints from evan's nursery right by the door...
Love that we were able to make so much from his nursery work in this one too, and yet they both totally have their own "look".
So that is about it. ;)
Now i guess all we need is a baby...
:)
PS - i'm going to upload larger images to a "nursery" set on Flickr this weekend - will update the post with a link to the set when i do...
It is absolutely perfect! You should submit it to Project Nursery and Odeedoh! And yes, a baby will be the finishing touch! :-)

What a lucky baby to come home to such a beautiful nursery. You are so gifted when it comes to scrapbooking, quilting and decorating. Those colors are bright and happy... just right for a new baby.

stunning & totally gorgeous. And let me tell you the "sophie" giraffe chew toy I saw in the pail is Rhett's FAVORITE thing in the world. I am glad you already have it because I would have bought it for you if you didn't. This turned out beautiful and will be perfect for your little boy or girl!!! I love it!!!

When can you come up to Pittsburgh and decorate my three daughter's rooms? What a beautiful bedroom! And I LOVE white furniture! White furniture really pops out in a room. You did such a great job! It looks like you get so much sunlight in the room, even with just one window. I love it! The blue paint is beautiful. It looks so much like the "aqua" light blue my oldest daughters room. You should get a job designing (and photgraphing) for Pottery Barn.

That is seriously the cutest nursery I've ever seen! I love the color combination. When we have another baby, we won't find out the gender either, so you've given me some ideas!

The nursery is just beautiful! I love the turquoise and yellow/orange color scheme! It's perfect for a little boy or a girl! I love nursery's that are not matchy-matchy themed, but rather bring in a lot of different elements! You have outdone yourself Mama! Now rest up and get ready for that little bundle! Thank you so much for sharing!

Looks wonderful Susan. I hope it gets put to use soon! And I hope that some time towards the end of 2011 we can come see it in person :) Good Luck this next week. We're anxiously waiting to hear what name will go above the crib! Miss you guys!

Absolutely beautiful! You should be featured on ohdeedoh! :)
A quick question about the burpies, did you use the thicker, 'premium' cloth diaper or the thinner 'birdseye' diaper? I made one of your burpies using the premium diaper and they look much thicker than yours (and don't fold as nicely).
Best wishes to you and your family with your new addition...soon!

Um, Susan!!! I have total nursery envy! Since the house we OWN is still in AZ, we're renting here in CO and I CAN'T PAINT THE WALLS! I'm so so sad. :( I love the dark/light aqua and yellow. Totally perfect for a little boy or a little girl! My fave is the wall decals of the giraffes! Cute little guys. Well, congrats, this is a definite win! Amazing. Can't wait to see pics of the new baby in it!
