ev's 1/2 birthday is today. :)
and so it's time for another quarterly update.
(because i love these - mostly i love looking back on them and remembering life at this point in our lives)
and so, at 2 years, 6 months (or 30 months!), Evan...
...finds humor in EVERYTHING. and tells us "that's fun-eeeeeeeeeeeeeee". and we almost always laugh bc he's right, it usually is funny. his little personality is hilarious.
...is obsessed with sports. basketball, football, baseball, and golf are faves. he points out EVERY driveway basketball hoop in our neighborhood. he also brings his little tykes bball hoop to the park in our neighborhood, so that he can play basketball for real on the court. he recently discovered volleyball, and thinks that's cool too. he also likes to watch hockey & tennis on tv and talk about them, but we don't play those sports. yet.
...goes to school 2 days a week and likes it for the most part. tells us all about goldfish time, and playground or playroom time, and "friends", and playdoh time, and his teachers, and chapel, and crafts. altho he RARELY does the crafts. ha.
...is a picky picky PICKY eater. likes chicken. sometimes grilled cheese. ate 1/2 a slice of mushroom pizza last week (and i'm hoping that's not just a fluke!). still loves almost all fruits. and is now obsessed with donuts! krispy kreme is a fave!
...likes toby (or "pooooo-le" > for poodle) to jump in his bed with him after naptime. i make toby do it. toby gets annoyed but tolerates it for about 3 minutes max. ;)
...repeats anything and everything that we say.
...peed in his elmo potty once. (yesterday) it was momentous ;)
...LOVES sesame street. watching it. playing it (we have the sesame play house and characters). and reading every single sesame book we have. especially the dentist/toothbrushing one (thanks grandma!).
...loves his grandparents. all 4 of 'em! is so excited to talk about them, and for when they visit. and is getting MUCH better at chatting on the phone with them.
...still isnt on board with the new baby thing. ;)
...could probably order his own lunch/happy meal at the McDonald's drive through (if my voice was gone or something!), since he shouts it out as I order it for him. and gets annoyed when i dont add on a small fry (we order apples with the happy meal) quickly enough. he also could order for me as well, since he shouts out "diet coke!" after completing his order ;) ha.
...sings the ENTIRE new john mayer cd like verbatim in the car. it's hilarious. he also frequently requests U2 or Death Cab for Cutie > since those are commonly on rotation in daddy's car. he'll also settle for one of the "Glee" soundtracks if i tell him that "John Mayer is taking a break".
...& is so much fun that i can't wait to see him with a baby brother or sister - so soon. !!!!

yay. i have a quilt to share today.

finished this one up last fall as an assignment for the Fiskars Crafts website...
you can see the info/instructions (and sketch!) here.
i knew this would be a great opportunity to get something done way early for the new baby...
and so i decided on a smaller(ish) stroller quilt. the finished quilt measures roughly 30 inches square.
it's kind of like a modified coin quilt style. mixed in with me just doing whatever i felt like ;) (which always works best, right?!).
Our stroller now is a peg perego p3 in bright orange! we have the matching infant seat that goes along with it. we're def planning on reusing that infant seat and just replacing the stroller (bc really ours has seen MUCH better days) with another orange P3 (apparently i have a thing for orange strollers!)... and SO, i wanted this to match.
and still be gender neutral. which i think it is. :)
was able to use lots of favorite fabrics here - many of which are out of print and hard to find (for those of you who email and ask about certain prints), and then sashed everything in white kona cotton.
the shapes (house, tree, & sun) are just fun & add a bit of interest i think.
i used white thread to quilt it with a free motion stitch... so it'll be perfectly-super-crinkly when it's washed. YUM! :)
the backing is just easy-peasy amy butler dots, the binding is from denyse schmidt's out of print flea market fancy line.
...& the baby is currently jumping around in my belly as i type this so hopefully s/he approves!

I'm a little late on posting my Studio Calico sneak peeks for the ABSOLUTELY DELISH February kit BAKER'S DOZEN - that goes on sale this week! - but never the less, here they are!
yay! so so SO delish. April outdid herself putting together this kit. i really LOVED the both the Studio Calico exclusives & the mix of colors in the 'Baker's Dozen' kit, not to mention the add-on kits, which i missed out on - but you don't have too... hehe. just be QUICK to get them - they are going to go fast!

took a little drive south yesterday to a new beach south of st augustine...
loved it.
evan insists on bringing a football to the beach EVERY time now. :)
he's so sporty. ;)
we are so lucky to just get in the car and hit the beach whenever we want.
(Can't forget that.)

I love what misting can do to a page! It's seriously my new favorite. If you haven't tried "misting" -----> YOU SHOULD!!!! You can see a whole collection of yummy mists here... My current favorite is the Lemon Mist. Its so bright and vibrant - & i have already used it on more than one page for the upcoming Studio Calico February kit...!

...18 weeks. hitting 19 tomorrow. that's just crazy.
we're scheduled for the 20 week ultrasound at the end of january and planning on NOT finding out the gender. which is SOOOO.NOT.ME. but i am loving it!
before evan, if anyone would have ever told me that I would have willingly let my baby's gender remain a surprise until the birth, i would have laughed until i cried. or laughed until i peed my pants. ;) either way it would have been a lot of laughing. :)
eric never wanted to find out, and this time around i decided that he might be on to something... so bring on gender neutral!
i loooooooove to shop on gap online, and seriously had like a year's worth of clothes for evan bought and in his closet before he was born (bc I knew he was a boy!), so this little 'not finding out trick' is definitely going to help with my banana republic bill. (eric likes this. alot.) ;)
the shopping that i have done has been all about green, and clean white, and a bit of yellow. and 0-7 lb newborn clothes, bc we had like NONE of those for evan - i thought that they were a scam and that we didn't need them - ha!. (we had to go out and buy them after he was born, and ended up using them for a month with him).
and so, 18 weeks done. wow. eric took these shots last weeked. proves i have a belly...

in the craziness that has been january thus far, i've been ignoring emails... i love, love getting emails from blog readers and try my best to answer the q's that you send along, but have been slacking in the email department. :( sorry.
so i thought i'd just write a little blog post with a couple of the random q's (and i am totally paraphrashing them) that i remember from the past few weeks. >>>
Q: where did you get the mirror over your fireplace?
A: Ballard Designs! love that store. we are lucky to have one of the few retail stores in jax. it's the "audrey" mirror.
Q: what's in your camera bag right now?
A: my canon 40D, new canon 24-70mm L series lens, trusty canon 50mm 1.4 lens, and usually on my camera is my canon 28mm 1.8 lens (its SO light and great for everyday type shots when i just want to quickly grab my cam). hanging out in a drawer in my house is my backup rebel xTi, canon fisheye lens, canon 28-135 IS and canon 85mm, oh, and canon external flash too. ps my current camera bag is a crumpler 5 million dollar home, but i def need to upgrade to something larger that better fits the new L lens.
Q: what fabric stores do you like to shop at?
A: current faves are >> fabricworm, quilthome, and superbuzzy (for japanese imports!), i also love various vendors on etsy when im just looking for a single print - so easy to just search it out under supplies. And i've been doing a LOTTTT of fabric shopping lately. trying to find someting that i love to have the baby bedding made out of (>> which, i decided not to do myself, bc time is not on my side, and there are people on etsy who make FABULOUS bedding!) i have the perfect colorscheme in my head and am really just trying to match it up to actual fabric now. ;)
that's such a general mix of random info, but hopefully it helps somebody some :)
