just call me a big blog slacker right now and get it out of the way ;)

this is what i've been wanting to work on the past week...

BUT in reality it's been more like playing play-doh (green of course, bc everything is evan-land these days is a mandatory shade of green > if given the choice ;)...

getting evan ready to start his little 2 year old twice-a-week school class (started monday!), and playing catch up with a full gmail file folder of paper-crafting assignments >> of which there will be lots to share in upcoming weeks.  :)

oh, and stalking the big brother live feed update sites.

(Can't leave that out!)

i tried out my new dresden plate template (purchased from joanns with a 40% off coupon!)....

and made this:

mini-quilts are really fun for trying out new things without committing to a super-big project.

& i have seen SO much of the aqua blue and red color combo lately, that I needed to try it for myself - and i love it.

now i think i might need a whole red & blue dresden quilt?!

here's a better shot of the detail...

you cut each 'petal' with the dresden template, sew together to form your dresden plate, and then applique to your base fabric.  & then i couldn't resist quilting it.  ;)

i think this little mini is going to go live with my grandmom.  i'm pretty sure she'll like it.

PS - i've gotten a bunch of emails/comments about selling quilts - right now i don't (it's really just something that i do for fun) - but who knows, i may decide to, if i end up with too many extra projects on my hands.  ;)

this was made for my sister's bff - who is due in september with a boy...

the fabrics are almost all from the lizzy house - red letter day line... (by andover i think?).

there is a little bit of katie jump rope (from denyse schmidt) and some amy butler solids thrown in for good measure ;)

the backing was pieced with scraps from the front.

i really like the backing.  :)

...and i just love how bright and fun and boy-modern this turned out.

next up is an amy butler mix.

here's ev helping me sort my amy butler stash.

he's so into "helping" these days.

and i just tell him that he's an "awesome helper".

so my "juicy" little baby quilt is finally finished!

i've had so many works in progress - and wrapped up 3 different quilts this week...

lots of tv + binding time mixed in with other sewing projects for Fiskars upcoming sewing month (september!)...

i'm loving the way this one turned out...

it's a mix of scraps that i had - & the alexander henry lemons that inspired the whole theme.

the backing is all lemons with some of my FAVORITE flea market fancy print thrown in :)

the binding is some of amy butler's now out of print dots - i really need to super-stock up on these soon... mixed with a little bit of the flea market fancy gold sprouts.  :)

 

...& for anyone who wants the dimensions: the blocks are all 6 inch square to start, and the sashing was done with 2.5 inch wide white strips.

Can i just tell you how excited i was when Memory Makers choose one of my photos of evan (from last Halloween!), for the cover of their Sept/Oct issue?!

VERY.  :)

but then i found out that this was going to be the last issue of MM - so sad but just an unfortunate reality in the magazine industry with the economy the way it is today - and so that makes it even more special, since I truly got my jumpstart in the industry as an '06 Memory Makers Master...

& i only get credit for the photo - not the actual layout - but i have to say that i love the layout that the fabulous Katrina Simeck put together for the MM cover - i'm totally a fan of her clean, fun, creative style :)

so as we're approaching Halloween season again, I'm deciding that I don't need to have evan's Lion costume hanging up in the closet for another year, and want to pass it on and let some other cute baby be an adorable little lion this year!  Thought i'd offer it here on the blog and then i'll probably just list it on Craigslist...

**here are the dets: (and this is seriously the CUTEST costume ever - how else did it end up on a mag cover?!  hehe!  and also incredibly well-made - i wouldnt hesitate to buy a babystyle costume again).

*Never washed - smoke-free home - worn all of 2 times!  (once in the backyard for photos for 15 minutes, once to trick or treat for another 15 minutes!)

i guess this is a mini post with a mini quilting project ;0)

(i've been slacking!  cha was a blast and having kp here to visit was so much fun!)

& so, this post is about a little guest project that i did for Danielle Thompson with her Kitschy Digitals projects a while back....

you can see the post here.

i used her A-DORABLE with a capital "A" Kawaii Cute Fruit Embroidery Patterns to hand embroider a few fun fruit guys onto solid fabrics, before working them into this mini-quilt...

& i let Paige take home the quilt last week...  bc really, what 2 year old doesnt need a hand embroidered doll / mini quilt?!

...i think i may now be hooked on embroidery work?!
